Project Web: Reflection

For Project Web my group focused on Social Media and my main topic was Reality Television. The way I decided on my topic was by brainstorming about all of the popular things that my generation mostly spent their time doing. In the end I narrowed it down to watching television and decided to mainly focus on MTV`s most famous reality TV shows, Jersey Shore and Teen Mom. While writing my essay and posting on my Blogger I learned that reality television has much more of a negative influence on teenagers than we realize. I now look at shows like these and really understand some of the reasons behind the behavior I see in teenagers my age these days.

Since last semester, I do believe that I have improved my writing. My grammar has advanced but I have also learned how to integrate quotes better so that they flow more in my essay as opposed to just having big chunks of quotes from different sources. I came up with ideas by not only researching but also by talking to some friends of mine and getting their perspective on my topic as well. This definitely helped me with my writing because it allowed me to see from different point of views instead of my own. Procrastinating a little through out my writing process actually helped me write better because I have realized that I work very well under pressure. During my writing process the easiest part was actually being interested and engaged in my topic. I really enjoyed the fact that we had the opportunity to have some freedom when it came to choosing our main focus. The most difficult part was trying to find information about my topic on the CSUN library database because my topic was very modern and new and it was hard to find something that really applied and was significant enough to include in my paper. Overall I am satisfied with the outcome and I am beginning to notice the positive change in my writing.
